“It was certainly for some minutes that we watched at least 150 feet of the Titanic towering up above the level of the sea, looming black against the sky. Then with a quiet, slanting dive she disappeared beneath the waters. Our eyes had looked for the last time on the gigantic vessel in which we set out from Southampton.” – Unknown (Wilkinson & Hamilton, 2011)
The RMS Titanic was one of three super ships built by The White Star Line that focused on luxury as well capacity (Barratt, 2010). The story of the Titanic begins in 1868 when Thomas Henry Ismay purchased The White Star line (Barratt, 2010) and continues to this day. The tragedy of the Titanic occurred on April 14, 1912 when the ship hit an iceberg and sank, resulting in the loss of over 1,500 lives ("Titanic's timeline," 2012).
The Titanic was the most luxurious ship of her time and her captain, Edward James Smith, was said to be the Millionaires captain (Wilkinson & Hamilton, 2011). The Titanic had three different dining areas, one for each class of passengers, a restaurant, a pool, three promenades for passengers to walk on, and a gym (Barratt, 2012). In shorter words she was a floating city that was built to carry around 3,000 people, passengers and crew. She was designed with the newest ship building techniques and had the latest technology, a wireless transmitter, on board (Barratt, 2010). Everyone one who say her was in awe and even at her final resting place she is still beautiful (McCord, 2012).
